Santana dos Montes (in English, Saint Anna of the Hills) was founded in 1709, by gold miners who built a little church dedicated to Saint Anna on top of a hill known as Morro do Chapéu (Hat Hill). |
No more than 4,000 people live in this very well preserved village, surrounded by a natural park (protected woods, lots of waterfalls) with many old farms now used as hotels and spas. |
